Description
A fast growing tree that grows up to 20 - 40 m tall. The trunk is smooth and grey in colour.
The leaves are simple, opposite, ovate, rounded, and acute with elliptic stipules and hairs on midrib below. The lamina is large and has petioles that are 2 - 6 cm.
The flowers are yellow in colour, with inflorescences that area 2-4 cm in diameter.
The fruits are red, ellipsoid and about 5-8 mm.
The seeds are also red in colour.
The wood is golden-orange /greenish.

Timber, tool handles, canoes, grain mortars, spoons, firewood, Ornamental, Agroforestry.
Ecology
Burttdavya nyasica is native to Tanzania, Mozambique and Malawi. This tree prefers growing in dry lowlands, lowland forests, evergreen forests, especially on the streams
