AFRDA has four connected thematic areas with each area having its own importance and our strength is in bringing them together into practical programmes that respond to the full reality of community life.
Our Thematic Areas
Environment and Natural Resource Management
Environmental Sustainability is central to AFRDA’s work because natural resources are the foundation of community resilience. Land, soil, trees, water sources, wetlands, biodiversity and local ecosystems support farming, health, food, income and future opportunity.
Climate Adaptation
AFRDA supports climate-adaptation and resilient solutions helping communities adopt practical approaches that are suited to their local conditions. Our work includes demonstration sites, learning sessions, improved seed access, soil protection, water-use practices, diversification, local market linkages and climate adaptation training.
Community Development
AFRDA supports inclusive community development by working with local leaders, women, youth, schools, community groups and local government structures. We work to strengthen participation, improve local planning, support practical livelihood action and connect communities to stakeholders and partners that can help them move forward. This includes community meetings, local needs assessments, youth engagement and empowerment, women’s participation, school-community activities, group trainings and strengthening and linkages to social, technical or financial support.
Advocacy
AFRDA supports community-centered and evidence-led advocacy that connects local experience with institutions, partners and the wider public. The work begins with listening, field diagnostics and documentation and may include community dialogues, awareness activities, public education, stakeholder forums, consultation meetings, field reports, policy briefs, case stories and engagement with local governments, ministries, civil society organisations, development agencies, universities and private-sector actors.
